101st Air Refueling Wing Awarded 2014 Air Force Outstanding Unit Award

BANGOR, ME (10/27/2015)(readMedia)-- The 101st Air Refueling Wing, Maine National Guard, has been awarded the 2014 Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for the time period October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2014.

This is the twelfth Air Force Outstanding Unit Award received by the 101st Air Refueling Wing for exceptional meritorious service. In addition, in 2012 the 101st was the first Air National Guard unit to be awarded the Meritorious Unit Award for its home state operation, making it one of the most storied units in the Air Force today.

The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award may be awarded to any unit in the U.S. Air Force, including the active components, reserves and Air National Guard.

The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award is awarded by the secretary of the Air Force to numbered units that have distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious service or outstanding achievement that clearly sets the unit above and apart from similar units. The services include; performance of exceptionally meritorious service, accomplishment of a specific outstanding achievement of national or international significance, combat operations against an armed enemy of the United States, or military operations involving conflict with or exposure to hostile actions by an opposing foreign force.

"The 101st Air Refueling Wing has a long tradition of remarkable service," said Col. Douglas A. Farnham, commander of the 101st Air Refueling Wing. "The efforts of our Airmen during this period is no exception. We are proud of the MAINEiacs operational engagement both in deployed locations and in Bangor."

The dedication and commitment of the members of the unit enabled the 101st Air Refueling Wing to fulfill its commitment to the missions of peacekeeping, humanitarian relief, domestic improvement, and the defense of America.
