NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION, NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (10/17/2020) (readMedia)-- The New York Air National Guard's 107th Attack Wing's 107th Mission Support Group will get a new commander, and a veteran Air Guard non-commissioned officer will receive the Bronze Star during a ceremony today, Saturday, October 17 at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.

Lt. Col. Steven M. Hefferon, a Barker native and an alumni of the State University of New York, Cortland, will be promoted to the rank of Colonel and take command of the 107th Mission Support Group.

Master Sgt. Michael J Owczarczak, a Medina resident, will be awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his serve as the Security Forces Plans Superintendent while serving with the 443rd Air Expeditionary Squadron and the 447th Air Expeditionary Squadron of the 321st Air Expeditionary Wing at Al Asad air Base in Iraq.

WHAT: A ceremony during which Steven M. Hefferon, assumes command of the 107th Mission Support Group and is promoted to the rank of colonel and Master Sgt. Michael J. Owczarczak receives the Bronze Star Medal.

WHEN: 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020.

BACKGROUND:

Col Steven M. Hefferon is the Mission Support Group Commander of the 107th Attack Wing, New York Air National Guard, Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, and New York. He oversees operations for the Civil Engineer Squadron, Security Forces Squadron, Force Support Squadron, Logistics Readiness Squadron, Communications Flight, and Contracting.

Master Sergeant Michael J. Owczarczak is the 107th Security Forces Squadron Unit Training Manager assigned to the 107th Attack Wing located at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, New York. As the Security Forces Squadron Unit Training Manager he is responsible for planning, executing, and validating required training for both state and federal contingency operations to ensure the 73 Defenders maintain the highest level of readiness for state and federal missions.
