109th Airlift Wing hosts open house on Saturday, Sept. 25.

STRATTON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, SCOTIA, N.Y. (09/22/2021) (readMedia)-- The 109th Airlift Wing will be hosting an open house and car show at Stratton Air National Guard Base on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 10am- 2pm. There will be a static display of a LC-130, various career field displays, music, food and vendors. A car and bike show will take place on the flight line.

Members of the press are invited to cover the event.

WHO: Members of the 109th Airlift Wing and public.

WHAT: The wing will hold an open house to educate community members about the mission of the 109th Airlift Wing and offer opportunities to enlist to those eligible and interested. All guests must wear a mask while on the base in order to comply with Department of Defense directives. Members of the public are also invited to participate in a car show as part of the open house.

WHEN: Saturday, September 25th, 10am-2pm.

WHERE: Stratton Air National Guard Base, 1 Air National Guard Rd., Scotia, NY, 12302.

Media Opportunity:

Subject matter experts will be available to discuss the mission of the 109th Airlift Wing. There will also be an opportunity to obtain imagery of the aircraft and various career field displays.

Background:

The primary mission of the 109th Airlift Wing is to provide airlift within Antarctica, flying to various remote locations from McMurdo Station. Crews transported scientists, support, fuel, supplies, medical supplies and more throughout the season

The unique capabilities of the ski-equipped LC-130 aircraft make it the only one of its kind in the U.S. military, able to land on snow and ice.
