13,800 NY Voters Had their Affidavit Ballots Thrown Out, Advocates Push Leg to Fix

NEW YORK, NY (05/05/2021) (readMedia)-- Today, former Congressmember (NY-22) and lawyer Anthony Brindisi, former Speaker of the NYC Council Melissa Mark-Viverito, Onondaga County Democratic Elections Commissioner Dustin Czarny, Assemblymember and bill sponsor Bobby Carroll, and VoteEarlyNY (VENY) Co-founder and Voting Rights Counsel, Jarret Berg will discuss the massive voter suppression impact caused by the the "wrong church, wrong pew" problem and push the New York Legislature to pass pro-voter legislation to remedy the total ballot disqualification that occurs when a person votes at the wrong poll-site.

New York City has been dramatically impacted, particularly the Bronx.

VENY analysis of 2020 General Election data show that the problem is the leading cause of affidavit ballot disqualification among registered voters, with 13,800 ballots completely disqualified as a result. The Senate Elections Committee passed legislation to fix the issue yesterday, it now awaits a floor vote. AM Carroll has introduced a same-as bill in the Assembly.
