136th Engineer Company (Vertical) Sourced for Deployment to Kuwait

AUGUSTA, ME (12/12/2014)(readMedia)-- Brigadier General James D. Campbell, The Adjutant General of Maine, announced that the National Guard Bureau has notified him on Tuesday, December 9th, that the 136th Engineer Company (Vertical) has been sourced for a deployment to Kuwait in spring of 2016.

Continuing Maine's great tradition of supporting our nation's call to duty, the 136th Engineer Company (Vertical), will deploy to the region for installation upgrades in support of the drawdown of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan.

The 136th Engineer Company (Vertical) is comprised of approximately 160 Soldiers, which specialize in carpentry, masonry, electrical and plumbing. The unit is located in Skowhegan and Lewiston, Maine.

The unit has supported multiple mobilizations throughout the United States and to other countries for training. Missions include Operation Jump Start in Nogales, Arizona, and Hurricane Irene response in Rutland, Vermont. They have also conducted training in Hohenfels, Germany and supported Beyond the Horizons in El Salvador. The unit was sourced to deploy to Iraq in 2009, but the deployment was cancelled.

The leadership of the Maine National Guard is committed to ensuring the unit receives the best training to prepare for this deployment.

By using our National Guard Soldiers in real world missions and operations, our Guard members will remain trained, and ready to answer the call of our state and nation.
