220+ "Reject The Cover-Up" Protests Planned Nationwide Evening Of Senate GOP Vote To Acquit Trump
Protests to Hold Trump, GOP Senators Accountable for A Sham Trial and Setting Off A Crisis of Democracy
NEW YORK, NY (02/04/2020) (readMedia)-- Tomorrow evening, February 5th, Americans will mobilize across the country to protest Senate Republicans voting to "acquit" Donald Trump after they blocked key witnesses with incriminating evidence from testifying. Protesters in New York and other states will send a clear message to Trump and to Republican lawmakers who orchestrated his sham impeachment trial: Any "acquittal" made after blocking key evidence is not an exoneration-it's a cover-up.
At more than 250 events across the country, protestors will hold Donald Trump and Republican Senators accountable for betraying the American people and the Constitution.

"Americans deserved a fair trial and the truth from those they elected to serve them, but the Senate Republican majority ignored the will of the people with its cowardly attempt to sweep Donald Trump's shameful and illegal acts under the rug," said Karen Hobert Flynn, President of Common Cause. "On Wednesday night, the people will be heard in protests across the nation. Seventy five percent of Americans wanted to hear from witnesses in the impeachment trial, but Mitch McConnell refused to call even a single witness. We the people do not accept this disgraceful attempt to cover up Donald Trump's abuse of the powers of the presidency and we will make our voices heard in protests Wednesday and on Election Day."
"Senate Republicans have thrown all democratic norms and decades of precedent out of the window by preventing witnesses from testifying before the Senate. Any 'acquittal' made after blocking key evidence is not an exoneration, it's a cover-up," said Sean Eldridge, Stand Up America Founder and President. "We're mobilizing thousands of protestors across the country to make it clear that voters are watching, and we'll remember the lawmakers who chose cowardice over patriotism."
Despite a vast majority of Americans supporting the Senate calling witnesses, Republican senators last week blocked firsthand witnesses with incriminating evidence from testifying, prevented critical evidence from being entered into the record, and moved to "acquit" Trump after a sham trial.
The actions are being organized by a large coalition of groups, including: By the People, Common Cause, Greenpeace, Indivisible, NextGen America, Public Citizen, Sierra Club, Stand Up America, Stand Up Republic, Women's March, and numerous others.
