$4,000,000 Lotto Winner from East Meadow Says Long Island is THE Lottery Place To Be

GARDEN CITY, NY (07/14/2011)(readMedia)-- The New York Lottery's Gretchen Dizer today awarded more than $12,000,000 in Lottery prizes to a host of winners from Long Island, Queens and Brooklyn. The winners gathered at the upscale Roosevelt Field in Garden City to collect their respective winnings.

$4,000,000 Lotto Winner from East Meadow: It's All About Location, Location, Location

Susan Machtinger, 62, of East Meadow, Nassau County, credits her recent $4,000,000 Lotto win to her no nonsense approach to buying Lottery tickets. "I ask the retailer to give me his luckiest Lotto ticket," explained the retired office equipment account representative. Machtinger saw her wish fulfilled when she claimed a $4,000,000 Lotto prize at the Lottery's Garden City Customer Service Center on May 31st.

The Nassau County native purchased her lucky Lotto ticket on Thursday, May 26th at Waldbaum's on Front Street in East Meadow. "I'm not lucky but I always felt like I was in the right place to win," said the new millionaire. "Long Island is the place to be!"

Machtinger won the top prize after matching all six numbers drawn for the May 28th Lotto drawing. The winning Lotto numbers for that evening's drawing were 2, 3, 7, 9, 12, and 57. She is the 40th Long Island Lottery player to win or share a Lottery prize of $1,000,000 or more so far this year. The 40 new Lottery millionaires include the 20 co-workers at the Melville Costco store who split a June 1st Powerball jackpot worth $201,900,000.

Machtinger opted to receive her Lotto jackpot as a lump sum payment, which represents the cash value of the advertised jackpot. She will receive a one-time payment of $2,312,250 (net $1,526,778). Her plans for the windfall remain up in the air. Said Machtinger, "I'm still figuring things out, but I may buy my daughter a new car. The grandkids tell me she really needs one!"

Summer Break = Lucky Break for Dix Hills Math Teacher, $3,000,000 Richer jackpot winner

Gregory Scheuerman, 34, of Dix Hills, Suffolk County has a passion for numbers. The 8th-grade math teacher for the Syosset School District said the only thing that comes close to his passion for teaching math is his pursuit of the elusive Lottery jackpot. "I'm lucky here and there," he said.

Scheuerman purchased his very lucky $3,000,000 Richer scratch-off ticket on June 25th at the Huntington Card & Smoke Shop on East Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station. He claimed the ticket on June 27th at the Lottery's offices in Garden City. He will receive his prize as $150,000 a year for 20 years. His annual net check will total $99,045. The bachelor millionaire said his plans for his "summer paycheck," include traveling and buying a new home.

• Gil Loais, a 34-year-old fast food manager from of Uniondale, Nassau County who won $1,000,000 on the Million Dollar Bankroll instant game

• John Miller, a 66-year-old water treatment manager from Locust Valley, Nassau County who won a $1,000,000 prize on the Loteria instant game

• Melissa Gladney, a 34-year-old healthcare worker from Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn who won a Win $1,000 a Week for Life top prize, guaranteeing her a minimum prize of $1,000,000

• Nenita Pabriaga, a 51-year-old Registered Nurse from Jamaica, Queens who won a $1,000,000 prize on the Big Bills instant game

• And brothers Jeffrey Vee, 45, and Alex Vee, 41 of Great Neck, Nassau County, and Fresh Meadows, Queens respectively. The brothers are sharing a $1,000,000 prize on the Extreme Cash instant game. Jeffrey Vee is a network engineer. His brother Alex is an accountant.

The New York Lottery continues to be North America's largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing over $3 billion in fiscal year 2010-2011 to help support education in New York State. The Lottery's aid represents over 15 percent of total state education funding to local school districts.

Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education. It takes into account both a school district's size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.
