600+ New Yorkers To Urge NYC Council To Reject Airbnb-Backed Bills Ahead of Rushed Hearing

Airbnb is pushing dangerous legislation that would raise New Yorkers' rents and take thousands of homes as Council fights to ease housing crisis; Multi-billion dollar tech company is trying to ram through legislation before end of calendar year

NEW YORK, NY (11/19/2025) (readMedia)-- Ahead of tomorrow's City Council Housing Committee hearing, more than 600 New Yorkers will rally outside City Hall to demand the New York City Council reject Intro 1107 and Intro 948, Airbnb's attempt to undermine tenant protections and worsen the city's housing crisis so they can profit. Airbnb is promising these bills will help small homeowners, but the reality is their proposed bills would cause rents and home prices to increase and upend decades of settled housing law. Now, New Yorkers are rallying against these dangerous bills and urging the Council to reject Airbnb's eleventh hour attempt to raise our rents for their own gain.

Airbnb spent millions this year to overturn the city's housing laws before pivoting to a more extreme version of the anti-tenant, anti-housing bill they already tried to pass. The new bill, Intro 948, goes further than Intro 1107 by removing the host requirement for Airbnbs and changing the definition of a family under the city's housing code - and according to a new report, Intro 948 would raise rents and home prices for New Yorkers while leading to more displacement.

Airbnb knows their bill is toxic, which is why they are pretending it would help working families. But the company does not care about New Yorkers. Airbnb donated over $3 million to Trump and MAGA Republicans who are attacking the same communities Airbnb claims to support, while their leadership has referred to immigrants as "criminals" and openly worked with the Trump administration. The company is now aggressively lying about their new bill to rush it through the Council before a new, pro-tenant Mayor can stop them.
