AIC Field Hockey Leads Nation with 3.73 GPA to Earn NFHCA Team Academic Award; Five Named Scholars of Distinction

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced the winners of its 2023 Scholars of Distinction and its 2023 NCAA Division II Team Academic Award on February 19, 2024. The American International College (AIC) field hockey team was well-represented in both, winning the Team Academic Award with a nation-best 3.73 grade point average during the fall 2023 semester, and five student-athletes earned Scholar of Distinction honors.

Overall, 12 teams earned the NFHCA's Team Academic Award, which is given to each team that holds a cumulative team grade point average above 3.50 among its student-athletes for the fall semester, during which NCAA championship competition is held. AIC was the only NCAA Division II team above a 3.70 GPA as a team and was one of four Northeast-10 Conference programs honored.

The Scholar of Distinction award is granted to undergraduate student-athletes who hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 or higher through the end of the most recent fall semester. AIC's five honorees were Mayra Bok, Mar Busqueta, Maddie Darling, Phaedra Day, and Fenna Voll. Day earned the award for the second time in as many seasons.
