ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (12/02/2011)(readMedia)-- Abby Vandegrift of LaPlata, Maryland, is the recipient of a Charles County Scholarship at St. Mary's College of Maryland. The scholarship was established by the Charles County Commissioners and private donors to benefit academically talented students from Charles County with financial need.
Vandegrift, Class of 2013, is majoring in psychology with a minor in educational studies. She is a member of the college's crew team, the psychology honors society Psi Chi, the student education association, and the dance club. Vandegrift is also a tutor at the local elementary schools. After graduation, Vandegrift intends to pursue a graduate degree in clinical psychology or counseling.
St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
