PLATTSBURGH, NY (01/08/2009)(readMedia)-- The SUNY Plattsburgh music department will present the Adirondack Wind Ensemble in a concert called "Chamber Music from Three Continents" on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall, on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus. Ticket are $10 and will be sold at the door. The concert is free for all students.
Directed by SUNY Plattsburgh music professor, Daniel Gordon, the Adirondack Wind Ensemble will perform compositions from North America, South America and Europe, written specifically for wind and percussion instruments. In true chamber music format, the featured pieces each call for no more than a dozen players. Included in the program is a standard wind octet by Mozart, "Serenade No. 12, K. 388," and pieces by Dahl, Villa-Lobos and Poulenc, which all call for unusual combinations of instruments.
The Adirondack Wind Ensemble is a professional musical ensemble consisting of wind and percussion instruments. The performers include music educators and outstanding community musicians from schools and towns around the North Country. Every public school district in Clinton County is represented as well as several outside the region. Since 2002, the ensemble has performed an annual winter concert at SUNY Plattsburgh.
