Advisory Council on Underage Alcohol Consumption Meets June 17 in Albany

ALBANY, NY (06/11/2010)(readMedia)-- The state Advisory Council on Underage Alcohol Consumption will hold a meeting on Thursday, June 17, 2010.

As per Mental Hygiene Law, the Advisory Council on Underage Alcohol Consumption consists of representative stakeholders in the effort to combat underage alcohol consumption. The Advisory Council is charged with studying and analyzing information regarding underage drinking consumption; the responses to underage drinking made by government officials; conduct public hearings as necessary; identify recommendations on educational programs and training programs for law enforcement officials and prosecutors, as well as the appropriateness and effectiveness of existing civil and criminal laws. The Council is responsible for submitting an annual report to the Governor, the Majority Leader of the Senate and Speaker of the Assembly regarding its activities and recommendations.

WHEN: 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Thursday, June 17, 2010.

WHERE: 1450 Western Avenue, Albany, New York - Fourth Floor Conference Room

WHO: OASAS Commissioner Karen M. Carpenter-Palumbo; Chairperson Nelson Aquilano, Advisory Council members and OASAS staff.

AGENDA: Meeting will include welcoming new Board Member Joel Eisdorpfer; reporting on the Core Survey Results, Prevention Strategic Plan, What is happening on the National Scene, Regional Forum updates, and Sub-Committee reports. Discussions will include: Social Host Law Legislation, Medical Marijuana Initiative, Media Campaign ideas, and data/research articles.
