Advisory Council on Underage Alcohol Consumption Meets March 12 In Albany
The state Advisory Council on Underage Alcohol Consumption will hold its initial meeting on Thursday, March 12, 2009.
As per Mental Hygiene Law, the Advisory Council on Underage Alcohol Consumption is established consisting of twenty-one (21) members who are representative stakeholders in the effort to combat under age alcohol consumption. The Advisory Council is charged with studying and analyzing information regarding underage drinking consumption; the responses to underage drinking made by government officials; to conduct public hearings as necessary; identify recommendations on educational programs and training programs for law enforcement officials and prosecutors, as well as the appropriateness and effectiveness of existing civil and criminal laws. The Council is responsible for submitting an annual report to the Governor, the Majority Leader of the Senate and Speaker of the Assembly regarding its activities and recommendations.

AGENDA: Meeting will include remarks by Assemblyman Ortiz; status of the college conference, updates on statewide youth survey, media campaign, and Amethyst Initiative Debate; discuss Alcohol Awareness Month and Alcohol Free Weekend; and discuss legislative issues regarding Social Host and Alcohol Beverage Tax.
