After Climate Disaster Closes Subway + Streets, Frustrated NYers Demand Gov. Hochul Leadership on NY HEAT Act

'Take Steps to Stay Safe' is Not Climate Leadership, Lawmakers and Advocates Tell Governor

ALBANY, NY (10/01/2023) (readMedia)-- After New York City was pummeled by yet another extreme climate-driven rainstorm, lawmakers and advocates from across the state will gather Monday to urge Governor Hochul to show urgent climate leadership by passing the NY HEAT Act in next year's executive budget.

With the city still recovering from a daylong rain disaster that shut down subways, Metro North and roads, and flooded schools, businesses, and homes, lawmakers and advocates will call on Governor Hochul to commit NOW to passing the NY HEAT Act. The NY HEAT Act will help get New York off climate-destroying fossil fuels, and stop New Yorkers from having to pay for expanding and replacing the polluting, expensive, and outdated fracked gas pipeline network. It will also save overburdened New Yorkers up to $75 on their monthly energy bills.
