HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/09/2012)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 26, Hampden-Sydney College junior Alex Tyler Price received the Selden-Franke Award in Mathematics, presented by Dr. Paul F. Hemler, Associate Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science. Honoring Colonel Dudley Bird Selden and Colonel Gustav Adolphus Franke, Jr., both of whom served the College as math professors, this award is presented to the outstanding junior mathematician.

Alex, a Venable Scholar, is a linebacker on the varsity football team and is a member of the Tiger Athletic Club, the Society of Physics Students, Hampden-Sydney's Big Brother program, and the honor society Chi Beta Phi (science). A physics and applied mathematics major, Alex graduated from Fairfax High School and is the son of Tammi & Jay Price of Fairfax.
