SCRANTON, PA (06/14/2013)(readMedia)-- Alexander Gerard Daly of New Paltz, a 2013 summa cum laude graduate of The University of Scranton, received the Excellence in Philosophy Award from the University at Commencement. Daly was recognized for academic excellence and outstanding service alongside 67 other graduates who earned some of the nation's most prestigious honors including Goldwater, Truman and Fulbright scholarships.
Daly double majored in biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology and philosophy at the Jesuit university. He is a member of Phi Sigma Tau (the international honor society for philosophy) and Alpha Sigma Nu (the honor society for Jesuit universities and colleges). He is also a member of the Health Professions Organization (HPO) where he served as co-vice president of presentations.
Daly was a member of the Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honors Program, Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and the philosophy society. He was the production manager for Esprit, The University of Scranton's review of arts and letters and Editor-in-Chief for Discourse, the undergraduate journal of philosophy at the university. Daly served as an organic chemistry and calculus tutor for the University's Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence. He was also a member of the concert and jazz bands.
Daly will be attending Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.
Daly is a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie.
