WHITTER, CA (07/23/2013)(readMedia)-- Alhambra native Amber Orozco was named to the Spring 2013 Dean's List in recognition of her academic excellence. The environmental studies major graduated on May 17, 2013, and was named "Outstanding Graduate" in her major.
Orozco was an active student on campus, leading efforts related to environmental sustainability and was the manager of the student-led recycling program at Whittier. In recognition for her efforts, she won the won the Alianza de Los Amigos Leadership Award during the Spring 2013 Honors Convocation.
In addition, as a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow, Orozco traveled to Kenya twice to conduct research under the guidance of environmental science professor David Mbora. Orozco's research project, "The Effective Conservation of the Tana River Forests by the Pokomo of Kenya," involved holding workshops with people from local villages to learn about their use of natural resources and solutions for conservation. Undergraduate students are awarded Dean's List honors if he or she earns a 3.70 grade point average (GPA) while completing a full-time course load (12 units) in the fall and spring terms.
