DECORAH, IA (05/10/2013)(readMedia)-- Kurt Bearinger of Oelwein, Iowa will have his work on display May 7-19 in the Kristen Wigley-Fleming Gallery in the Center for the Arts building on the Luther College campus.
A reception will be held for the artists just outside of the exhibit in the Center for the Arts at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18. The reception is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Bearinger, the son of Bruce and Eileen Bearinger of Oelwein, is majoring in art at Luther. He is a 2009 graduate of Oelwein High School.
The art Bearinger has on display for the show is a video installation performance piece where he created a documentary-style video and surrounded it with a live show set up for his band. The video includes a combination of three elements: original audio from his demo album, live performance shots, and clips from a face-to-face interview between himself and his band mate Jake Doty.
The project documents his entire writing process by creating an environment similar to the one he imagined when he was writing the music. Viewers are to wear headphones to hear the audio and to completely block out their surroundings and to be fully engulfed in the scene. For the full performance, Bearinger will be sitting in the display at a desk writing a song on the spot.
The annual exhibit is held to give the students graduating with an art major the opportunity to present a sample of their entire senior project one final time while in college. The exhibit features a variety of works including painting, sculpture, photography, collage, video and mixed-media installation pieces.
The student exhibitors include Maseeh Ahmed, Kurt Bearinger, Sophia Brown, Ingrid Cologne, Nellie Herold, Eric Hild, Katelyn Kluge, Jason Knutson, Hannah Kosgard, Phoebe Jan-McMahon, Robby Scott, Emily Temte, Emily Voss, Rose Weselmann.
