All Tickets Claimed for Wallenda Walk Viewing Area in Niagara Falls State Park

Fun-filled opportunities to witness the walk remain

ALBANY, NY (06/01/2012)(readMedia)-- The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced that all free vouchers for access to the Terrapin Point area of Goat Island for Nik Wallenda's June 15 high-wire walk over Niagara Falls were claimed Friday morning, but other viewing opportunities for the historic event remain.

  • The City of Niagara Falls is holding an Old Falls Street "Side Show" Celebrating Nik Wallenda's Tightrope Walk from 11am-11pm. The Side Show features live coverage of the walk on two jumbo screens, interactive circus-themed performances, live music, street vendors, and festive food and beverages. Old Falls Street is directly adjacent to the State Park at Prospect Street.
  • State Parks will place a jumbo screen for viewing the walk in the Cave of the Winds area of the park.

Outside of Terrapin Point, the remainder of the park will remain open to all visitors, but officials caution that these areas do not provide an opportunity for live viewing of the event.

Free vouchers for public access to the Terrapin Point were quickly claimed on a first-come, first-served basis. Vouchers secured via the website can be redeemed for a wristband on June 15. Beginning at 9:00 a.m., wristbands can be picked up at the following locations in the State Park: The Niagara Falls State Park Visitor Center and the Cave of the Winds Information Kiosk. In addition, starting at 11:00 a.m., vouchers can be redeemed for wristbands at the Niagara Tourism and Convention Corporation Visitor Information Tent, located on Old Falls St between Rainbow Blvd and Prospect St. in the City of Niagara Falls.

There is no cash value for the voucher or wristband. Interested spectators who receive offers to purchase the vouchers should be advised that photo identification is required to redeem the vouchers for wristband. Wristbands required for entrance to the Terrapin Point viewing area will be issued on the day of the event and will be provided ONLY to the person under whose name the vouchers were reserved.

It is expected that parking will be very limited in the park on June 15 and that traffic conditions getting to the park will be congested as the day progresses. Spectators are urged to arrive in the city early and enjoy the Park as well as the family oriented Sideshow activities going on in the City of Niagara Falls on Old Falls Street beginning at 11:00 a.m. Attractions in Niagara Falls State Park will be functioning as usual all day on June 15 as well. Those planning to attend this event are urged to stay up to date on parking, traffic conditions and event information at and by tuning in to local media reports throughout the day.
