MORRISTOWN, NJ (04/18/2011)(readMedia)-- Kristopher Harrison of Allamuchy, N.J., has successfully defended his dissertation at the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), 2 Convent Road, Morristown, N.J., to earn his doctorate in educational leadership. Harrison's dissertation is entitled, "Extracurricular Activities and the Middle School Experience." He is superintendent of schools, Mendham Township School District.

"My experience in the CSE doctoral program has been most rewarding," says Harrison. "The program exposed me to high quality experiences that prepared me to deal with the rigors of educational leadership in the 21st century. I was fortunate to have been in a doctoral program journey with amazing educators who enriched my studies. Additionally, the CSE professors bring with them a tremendous passion for our field and a wealth of experience that provided a top-quality learning experience."

Prior to becoming superintendent, Harrison served as a building principal at the middle and elementary school levels, as well as assistant principal, special projects coordinator, language arts teacher and elementary classroom teacher. He serves on several professional committees including the NJASA Technology Committee, and the NJASA Legislative Committee.

The doctoral program at CSE, which is dedicated to preparing leaders who are committed to social justice and ethical practice, began in August 2007. "Integrated into all course work and learning activities are the central values and beliefs necessary for school leaders to function as morally purposeful stewards for their school communities," states Dr. John Crews, Ed.D., CSE educational leadership program chair. "This philosophy of servant leadership represents a major shift from the traditional paradigm of school leaders as managers of resources, which is so prevalent in today's practices."
