Alliance Sponsors Community Gathering to Promote Immigration Reform
NEWARK, NJ (04/17/2009)(readMedia)-- The Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey (LLANJ) today officially announced its plans to hold a community gathering in Elizabeth to promote immigration reform on Saturday April 25, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 201-223 Spring Street at the Iglesia Jesucristo es el Senor church.
The Families United Community Gathering on Immigration event is cosponsored by the National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders (CONLAMIC) and supported by community organizations from across the state.
The event will be attended by Senator Robert Menendez and Congressmen Luis Gutierrez and Albio Sires. It is part of a national effort to bring attention to the importance of immigration reform and highlight some of the hardships brought about by the current broken system.
"We want the public to hear testimonials from American citizens whose lives have been ripped apart by the raids and deportations that have been a cornerstone of federal immigration policy for the last few years," said Martin Perez, President of the Alliance. "The raids are not going to solve the immigration problem they are only inflicting pain and dividing families. We need to end the madness and reform the immigration system."
Senator Menendez, Congressman Gutierrez, Congressman Sires, Martin Perez and Rev. Miguel Rivera will be available for press interviews at the conclusion of the community gathering. The flyers promoting the event are attached to this press advisory.
The Latino Leadership Alliance is the largest Latino advocacy organization in New Jersey, and represents most of the leading Latino organizations across the state. The principal goals of LLANJ are to mobilize and empower the Latino community and to obtain political, economic and social equality.
LLANJ was founded in 1999.
