ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (10/01/2013)(readMedia)-- Allison Szymanski, an Easton, Md. native and first-year student at St. Mary's College of Maryland, was recently awarded the Bonnie Marie Green Scholarship. Established in 2013 by Trustee Emerita Bonnie Green '74, the named scholarship fund benefits Maryland students who have financial need.

At St. Mary's College of Maryland, Szymanski is studying psychology and education. She aspires to complete her undergraduate degree in 2017 and earn a graduate degree in teaching through the St. Mary's College of Maryland's Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program. Szymanski's career goal is to become an elementary school teacher.

Szymanski is a varsity student-athlete; she plays on the field hockey and lacrosse teams. She is also involved in the college's Best Buddies Club, a on-campus group which creates opportunities for friendship and leadership development for people with disabilities.

"I love to stay active in my community and my school with my peers," says Szymanski. "Spending time outside and playing sports is my hobby, but helping others is my passion."

St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
