FULTON, MO (02/18/2013)(readMedia)-- Alonzo Findley, a William Woods University student from Louisiana, Mo., is the recipient of a scholarship from Missouri Colleges Fund (MCF) in recognition of his achievements at WWU.

Money for the$2,400 scholarship came from UPS, which donated money to underwrite scholarships at each of the 17 MCF-member colleges and universities.

Findley and his three brothers were raised by their grandparents, Bob and Jonilyn Findley, who he says provided him with love and support.

"If it was not for my grandparents and my mom, I do not know what type of man I would be today," said Findley.

Findley added, "With the help of the UPS scholarship I am the first of my family to go to college. This will help me continue my education at William Woods University while obtaining an exercise science degree, a sports management degree, along with a minor in business administration. With my education I hope to accomplish being a personal trainer."

A member of the WWU track and field team, Findley captured the 2012 American Midwest Conference Outdoor shot put individual title, adding a second title in the discus. He also was fourth in the javelin.

"I have acquired many skills so far, but I know there are many more to go," Findley said. "Being at William Woods has taught me how to work with schedules, students, discipline, and being a leader."
