Alpha Lambda Delta initiates Xiaohang Zhou at University of the Cumberlands
WILLIAMSBURG, KY (04/04/2011)(readMedia)-- Xiaohang Zhou of Nicholasville, Ky. recently accepted membership and was initiated into National Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for First Year Students at University of the Cumberlands.
Membership in Alpha Lambda Delta is open to full-time freshmen students who earn a scholastic average of 3.5 or better at a four-year college or university.
Alpha Lambda Delta emphasizes that educated persons have a responsibility to "have tolerance in your dealings with all persons, generosity in giving to those in need, and insight into the feelings of others" says Dr. Glenda Earwood, executive director of the society. Members are challenged to make a "meaningful contribution to society."
Zhou has taken an oath to continue to "maintain high scholarship and to use my education for the benefit of my community, my nation, and the world in which we live."
Both Alpha Lambda Delta and University of the Cumberlands believe that recognition of academic excellence among first-year students encourages them to continue their successes throughout their college careers and aids in retention. Cumberlands' chapter advisors are Kathy G. Fish, professor of English, and Linda Carter, dean of Student Life, whose leadership is vital to the recognition of academically talented first-year students, as well as to the chapter's growth and achievement.
Since 1924, Alpha Lambda Delta has recognized outstanding students on college campuses throughout the country. The society has initiated more than 850,000 gifted students and has awarded more than one million dollars in scholarships.
