Altoona Cook Wins State Fair Apple Cooking Crown
DES MOINES, IA (09/03/2024) (readMedia)-- Jennifer Goellner of Altoona won first place and a $60 cash award in the Apple-Solutely Delicious Apple Dessert competition judged Monday, August 12, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.
Courtney Robey of Windsor Heights earned second place and $30. Sheryl Young of Pleasant Hill claimed third place and $10.
Contestants were tasked to create an award-worthy dessert using fresh apples.
Entries were judged on flavor, creativity and presentation.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
