STORM LAKE, IA (06/17/2013)(readMedia)-- Both Alyssa Evers and Ashley Rogers of Denison were recently honored at Buena Vista University's (BVU) student recognition event. Rogers is a senior biochemistry major, and Evers is a recent graduate who majored in elementary education.
Evers was inducted into Alpha Chi, a national honor society recognizing scholarship in all disciplines, promoting academic achievement and encouraging its members to continue their lives as scholars. Membership is restricted to ten percent of the senior class having a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and five percent of the junior class having a cumulative grade point average of 3.65 or higher.
Evers received the Teaching English as a Second Language Senior of the Year Award from BVU's School of Education.
Finally, Evers was one of several students to benefit from the Otteman Student Research and Internship Fund, which supports student research by supplying them with allocations to pursue learning opportunities.
Rogers received the Female Leader of the Year Award, which recognizes a female student who has made significant contributions to the quality of life on campus and who has demonstrated exemplary leadership skills and attributes. Each leader candidate must be nominated and then selected by a panel of staff members.
