Amy L. Armstrong Receives Gail Thomson/Penn Manor Scholarship

MILLERSVILLE, PA (08/02/2011)(readMedia)-- Incoming Millersville University of Pennsylvania student Amy L. Armstrong, of Lancaster, Pa., has been selected to receive the Gail Thomson/Penn Manor Scholarship for the 2011 fall semester. The Gail Thomson/Penn Manor Scholarship is for a student who is graduating from Penn Manor High School and enrolling at Millersville University as a first-time, full-time freshman.

Armstrong completed several Honors and Advanced Placement courses while at Penn Manor High School. She played varsity softball throughout high school and served as a peer tutor as well as an active member in the YWCA's "Central Manor Sisters Program." As a volunteer for the program, Armstrong tutors and mentors elementary school girls that need extra guidance, helping them with homework and with activities designed to enhance their self-esteem and social skills.

The scholarship is a non-renewable award in the amount of $132 and is in honor of Mrs. Gail Thomson's years of service as a teacher in the Penn Manor School District. The endowment was established by her husband, Dr. Edward Thomson, retired associate vice president of student affairs emeritus at Millersville University.
