HERKIMER, NY (05/10/2012)(readMedia)-- The Herkimer County Community College men's track team earned seventh place in the 20-team NJCAA National Track & Field Meet held May 5-7 at Alfred State. Under the leadership of Coach Sharon Gleasman-Howell, theirs was the best performance Herkimer has given at a national meet.
Senior runner Andrew Gregg (Homer) became Herkimer's first-ever male athlete to become a track & field national champion. Gregg earned that honor by winning the 400 Hurdles. He also placed fifth in the 110 Hurdles and 15th in the open 400m. Gregg's first-place finish qualifies him as an All-American.
Herkimer County Community College is a unit of the State University of New York, located in Herkimer, NY about 20 miles east of Utica, NY. With an enrollment of approximately 3,600 students, Herkimer offers more than 40 associate degree and certificate programs, on-campus housing, an active co-curricular activities schedule and a national championship athletic program. Herkimer is a Division III member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and has amassed 33 national, 85 regional and 126 conference championships. Herkimer placed second in the 2010-11 National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup competition.
