Animal Face Cakes Win State Fair Awards

DES MOINES, IA (09/05/2024) (readMedia)-- Brinley Lansman of Indianola won first place and a behind-the-scenes tour for two at the Blank Park Zoo in the Animal Face Cakes contest judged Thursday, August 15, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Avayla Palmer of Pleasant Hill earned second place, and Violet Hill of Runnells claimed third place.

Young bakers were challenged to create a cake and decorate it as the face of an animal.

Entries were judged on appearance and originality.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
