WORCESTER, MA (10/05/2011)(readMedia)-- Clark University graduate student Anna Stern, of Silver Spring, Maryland, spent her summer as an intern with Second Generation Energy in Hopedale, Mass. after being selected for the newly created Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) and New England Clean Energy Council internship program.

Stern's essay on her experience at Second Generation Energy also won her the MassCEC internship essay contest, after which she was invited to speak about her experience at the internship program's Boston celebration that was attended by Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray.

"Whether it was operations, sales, marketing, or customer care, the variety of projects I have worked on this summer were all successful in furthering my understanding of Massachusetts' solar policy," she writes in her winning essay. "My internship at Second Generation Energy has certainly given me hope for the energy crisis we are all facing... and made me optimistic that individuals and communities will collectively realize the power that we have to end our addiction to fossil fuels."

Stern graduated from Clark with a B.A. in Psychology and minor in Environmental Science in May 2011. She is currently a fifth-year student in Clark's Accelerated Master's in Environmental Science and Policy Program.

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Internship Program placed 117 students and recent graduates in paid summer internships at 70 clean energy companies across the state. The internship goal is to foster qualified professionals who are committed to the environment to work in the Commonwealth. The internship program continues MassCEC's commitment to supporting education and training opportunities that align with the Commonwealth's clean energy goals and industry growth.
