FULTON, MO (05/17/2011)(readMedia)-- Anne Marie Connelly of Highland, Ill., received a Student Alumni Council Outstanding Freshman Award at William Woods University's recent co-curricular honors banquet.

The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership.

Connelly is a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Pre-Vet Club, Student Alumni Council, Dressage Club, Multi-Cultural Affairs Club and the cheerleading squad. She is a switchboard/security employee at WWU.

She organized a younger girl's pageant to collect money and toys for the Marine Toys for Tots Drive and has collected more than 300 toys to give out to less-fortunate children. She has raised money for the Legendary Mustang Association, organized a horse show for the Madison County Fair Board to raise money for the fair board and committee, and she met with Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to discuss agriculture in Illinois.

In 2010 she assisted at the 2010 Highland Art-on-the-Square event in the Kids Art Area and handed out ribbons and awards. She has emceed at Highland's 2010 Kirchenfest Church Festival and joined with the Knights of Columbus in Madison County to bring disabled adults to the fair for a dance day and competition.

Connelly was a pageant judge for the 2010 Junior Miss Missouri Harvest Festival and assisted with the Cornerstone Farm's Riding Academy Bridge the Divide program that helps handicapped children learn to ride horses. She has discussed the importance of agriculture in her area at Rotary club meetings in her hometown county and was an email volunteer for the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games.

She has also worked undercover with the Clinton County Police Department to help with their fight against retailers selling tobacco products to minors.
