SAINT PAUL, MN (12/13/2012)(readMedia)-- Bethel University junior Seth Mathis from Andover, Minn., was named to the 2012 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Coaches' All-America Team. Mathis, a linebacker for the Royals, was one of 25 Division III athletes and three linebackers to be honored within the elite group. In addition, he was one of three Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) players to be recognized and the only defenseman.
This award comes just after Mathis was announced to the D3football.com All-West Region First Team Defense and 2012 MIAC All-Conference First Team. Mathis finished the season 25th nationwide in total tackles, but finished at the top of the MIAC with 120 tackles, averaging 10.9 per game. With his triple-digit season, Mathis moves into third all-time for career tackles at Bethel with 227.5.
