STRATTON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, SCOTIA, NY (12/02/2016)(readMedia)-- Anthony Zegarelli, a resident of Glenville and a veteran of two deployments to Iraq, has been commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the New York Army National Guard.

Zegarelli, who enlisted in the Army in 2006, was recognized as an officer during a Nov. 30 ceremony at Stratton Air National Guard Base.Zegarelli is currently assigned to the New York National Guard's 2nd Civil Support Team, which is headquartered at Stratton Air National Guard Base. The units members are trained to identify chemical, biological, and radiological agents and advise first responders on how do deal with these materials.

Zegarelli was trained as a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear specialist when he joined the Army and served with the 10th Mountain Division until leaving active duty in 2011. During that time he deployed to Sadr al Yusufiyah and Mamil Iraq.

He joined the 1108th Ordnance Company (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) after leaving active duty, and then joined the 2nd CST.

He was promoted to staff sergeant and served as survey team chief.He attended the National Guard's Office Candidate School and graduated in August. He is now serving as the 2nd Civil Support Team Survey Team Leader.
