'Antiques Roadshow' to feature Flagler College on Oct. 27 episode

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (10/15/2014)(readMedia)-- Flagler College is home to the world's largest collection of Tiffany stained-glass windows. So it's no surprise that popular PBS series "Antiques Roadshow" wanted to visit. The results of their trip will air nationally on Oct. 27, and can be seen locally on WJCT at 8 p.m.

Antiques appraiser Arlie Sulka, a Louis Comfort Tiffany glass expert and owner of New York City gallery Lillian Nassau, visited the college with "Roadshow" host Mark Walberg while the show was in Jacksonville in June 2013.

While Sulka is a Tiffany expert, she was just as taken with some of the hidden treasures she found throughout the former Hotel Ponce de Leon, the centerpiece of Flagler and a National Historic Landmark.

She marveled at a large vase signed by Emile Galle while touring the building with Flagler historian and retired history professor Dr. Thomas Graham. Galle was an important contributor to the Art Nouveau style of glassmaking and ceramics in the late 1800s. Sulka said the vase was "magnificently decorated" and one of the best Galle examples she had seen.
