POTSDAM, N.Y. (01/13/2011)(readMedia)-- The Clarkson University men's hockey team, the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team and the Potsdam Central High School boys' hockey team have teamed up for the first-ever Hockey Day in Potsdam on Saturday, Jan. 29.
Each team is scheduled to host one game that afternoon. The Sandstoners will take on Thousand Island at 1 p.m. at SUNY Potsdam's Maxcy Hall, while the Golden Knights will host Princeton at 4 p.m. at Clarkson's Cheel Arena. The Bears will cap the day with a 7:30 p.m. contest at Maxcy Hall against SUNY Cortland.
Fans can purchase one ticket good for admission to all three games for just $20. Tickets to each individual game will also be available for purchase at each site. Proceeds from the $20 all-inclusive ticket sales will benefit Marine Cpl. Aaron Howell. Additionally, any entrance fees collected at Maxcy Hall on that date will benefit the 24-year-old Parishville native, who was severely injured during a tour in Afghanistan last April.
Serving as a sniper, Cpl. Howell lost both legs and suffered other wounds when a mortar round exploded near him while on patrol. He had been with the Marines since 2007 and served one tour in Iraq prior to heading to Afghanistan. He has one brother, Jonathan, and his parents, Grace and David, who currently reside in Parishville.
To purchase tickets, contact the Clarkson University Athletic Ticket Office at 315-268-7750, or visit the Cheel Arena Box Office, which is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Any donations wished to be made on Cpl. Howell's behalf without purchase of tickets can be sent to: Jamey Hoose, SUNY Potsdam (Maxcy Hall), 44 Pierrepont Ave., Potsdam, NY, 13676.
