Ashley Brickner was selected selected to participate in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) 2012 Student Leadership Development Program

SAVANNAH, GA (05/16/2012)(readMedia)-- Ashley Brickner, a radiologic science student at Armstrong Atlantic State University, has been selected to participate in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) 2012 Student Leadership Development Program in Las Vegas, Nev. Brickner was one of 61 students chosen from more than 170 entries submitted to the "Welcome to Your Future" national essay competition for radiologic science students.

Brickner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the ASRT Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting from June 28-July 1, 2012. In addition, she will attend an educational track at the Symposium specifically designed for students and be assigned a professional mentor during the House of Delegates meeting.

"The national professional organization for radiologic sciences awards a limited number of scholarships each year. To win one of these awards is quite an honor and speaks extremely highly to the talent and potential that Ashley has as a student and as a future professional," Elwin Tilson, department head for radiologic sciences, said.

The ASRT represents more than 144,000 members who perform medical imaging procedures or plan and deliver radiation therapy treatments. The society also provides radiologic science students with the tools, services and support they need to prepare for careers in medical imaging and radiation therapy.

Students participating in the "Welcome to Your Future" essay competition were required to write a 500-700 word essay. The essays were evaluated on several factors including the author's commitment to pursuing a career in the radiologic sciences.

"The Student Leadership Development Program is a great way for radiologic science students to get involved in the ASRT early in their careers," said ASRT President Dawn McNeil, M.S.M., R.T.(R)(M), RDMS, RVT, CRA. "While in Las Vegas, students will have the opportunity to participate in educational activities and get an in-depth look at how the governance process works for the world's largest radiologic science organization. It also will be a great way for students to learn from seasoned radiologic technologists."
