SYRACUSE , NY (08/27/2013)(readMedia)-- Visitors to the New York State Fair can find out what it's like to fire the Army's M-9 pistol or M-4 carbine if they stop by the New York Army National Guard recruiting station at the fair.

The Army National Guard recruiters there have set up the same Laser Shot training system that Guard Soldiers use to hone their weapons skills at the home armories and readiness centers. The system lets fair goers try to qualify on the standard pistol and assault rifle Guard Soldiers carried in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Members of the New York Army National Guard will also be on hand to talk about what it's like to serve as one of New York's Citizen Soldiers.

Reporters looking for a different angle for their State Fair coverage are invited to stop by the recruiting station and check out the action.

The New York Army National Guard, with a membership of about 10,500 Soldiers, is currently at 100 percent strength.

National Guard Recruiters, though, are continually seeking new Soldiers to fill job education opportunities available in units across the state.

Throughout the summer months New York Army National Guard recruiters will be manning booths at county fairs to let the public and potential Soldiers know more about the force.
