MILLERSVILLE, PA (06/06/2014)(readMedia)-- Ashley Sherman, Hanover, Pa., has been selected to receive the Russell C. Hughes Endowed Scholarship for English. Sherman will graduate from Hanover Senior High School and will attend Millersville University of Pennsylvania this fall to study English.
The Russell C. Hughes Endowed Scholarship for English is awarded to a first-time, full-time freshman who possess a 3.0, or higher, grade point average with earned SAT critical reasoning and math scores of 1000, or higher, who plans to major in English. The recipients must also have been active as a staff member for school a publication. It is a renewable award in the amount of $831.50 per year.
Sherman pursued a traditional college preparatory curriculum while in high school that included honors-level and Advanced Placement courses, achieving academic honors throughout.
Sherman is a musician, participating in the marching band, lyric band and honors band in grades nine through 12. She was also a member of the Show Choir, Chamber Choir, chorus, Victorian Singers, the National Anthem group and the theatre club, performing as a vocalist.
Sherman also spent time as a volunteer through the T.A.G. Team and participated in the Mini-THON. As a music student intern, she gives private vocal lessons to a middle school student and a high school student. She was also a member of the school newspaper staff and an athlete, playing field hockey in ninth grade and managing the soccer team that same year.
