Atlanta Resident Jeet Budha Magar Receives Prestigious Sullivan Award from Oglethorpe University

ATLANTA, GA (05/16/2013)(readMedia)-- Atlanta resident Jeet Budha Magar, an Oglethorpe University senior and math/economics dual major, received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award at the university's annual Honors and Awards Ceremony on April 12, 2013.
Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation selected Oglethorpe University in 2011 to be among a select group of universities to have the honor of presenting the highly prized Algernon Sydney Sullivan and Mary Mildred Sullivan Awards to two deserving seniors.The awards are given annually to a man and a woman whose remarkable character and dedication to service sets them apart as examples to others.
Originally from Thawang, Nepal, Jeet has been an active and engaged member of the Oglethorpe community. Jeet has been involved in Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity (National Co-ed Service Fraternity), Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa, Sigma Zeta, Thaakat Foundation, the Society of Physics Students, Oglethorpe Rotaract Club, OU Men's Cross Country, and as a 1500m and 800m runner on the Track and Field team. Since freshman year, he has participated in numerous volunteer projects and program activities, including Service Days, Alternative Service Breaks and working at Oglethorpe's nonprofit partner sites throughout the Atlanta metro area. Jeet's interests include economic markets, stocks and investments, computers and technology, and news and discussions on various topics. He plans to pursue a career as an entrepreneur in the financial sector, especially risk management and investments with an emphasis on information technology.
The Algernon Sydney Sullivan and Mary Mildred Sullivan Awards were created nearly 100 years ago to honor the service of the husband and wife for whom the awards are named. Sullivan Awards, represented by a bronze medallion, are highly prized. Previous recipients who have proven their ability to live up to the standards set by this honor range from First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to Fred Rogers, noted star of children's television.
