Aurora University honors Live Oak's Craig Carter during Homecoming Weekend

AURORA, IL (10/23/2012)(readMedia)-- Aurora University presented Craig A. Carter, AU '85, with the Distinguished Alumni Award during this year's Homecoming Weekend Centennial Alumni Dinner on October 5, 2012.

Aurora University seeks to prepare students for lives of integrity, leadership and service. Craig Carter, a 1985 alumnus with a double major in business administration and social welfare, is a stellar example of this life choice. In applying his business expertise to the not-for-profit world, he embodies the values that have always been central to AU's mission. If you ask Craig about his time at Aurora, he will tell you he received a quality education that prepared him well for his career.

The Spartan spirit was already moving in him when he sent his application in 1981. His father and mother, wife, brother and two sisters all graduated from Aurora College or Aurora University. Following his family legacy, Carter entered Aurora College in 1981 and graduated with its last class in 1985-the year that the college was renamed Aurora University. His college years were a time for developing long-lasting friendships and indelible memories.

After graduation, Craig served as a caseworker for the Family Counseling Service in Aurora. Then in 1986 he began work as an Information Management Analyst with a company in Tampa, Fla. Six years later, he accepted a position at the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, Fla. as Vice President for Resource Development, Marketing and Public relations, a position he held until 2008 when he became the President/CEO of the Advent Christian Village. Carter credits his business administration major with providing a solid foundation for his leadership of the Advent Christian Village while his background in social welfare gave him a better understanding of people and their needs.

Committed to public service, Craig has served on the Board of Directors of the Suwanee County Chamber of Commerce, including stints on the executive committee and as chairman. He has been a member of the Live Oak Rotary Club since 1992, serving on the Board of Directors and as Assistant District Governor. Likewise, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Florida Conference of Advent Christian Churches and the Board of Directors of the Suwanee County Council for Economic Progress.

Carter is a man of faith who belongs to the Bixler Memorial Advent Christian Church, serving on its Board of Directors for 20 years and as a Deacon for 15 years. He and his wife Vicky, AU'86, are the parents of three children, Adam, Timothy and Lindsay.

For his continuing commitment to leadership in the not-for-profit sector and his dedicated service to the people at the Advent Christian Village and in his community, Aurora University was proud to award Craig Carter a Distinguished Alumnus Award.
