Austin Evans to Participate in Global Issues Seminar in Washington, D.C.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (01/17/2012)(readMedia)-- Austin Evans of Ava, Mo., is among a select group of elite Southeast Missouri State University undergraduates chosen to participate in a five-day seminar in Washington, D.C., during spring break March 11-16, learning about global issues in business, the environment and politics at the prestigious Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

Students selected for the opportunity were required to demonstrate leadership involvement on and off campus, academic excellence or both.

Participants for the trip were nominated by faculty members and selected by University administrators, including Southeast President Kenneth W. Dobbins, Southeast Provost Ronald Rosati, deans and regional campus directors.

Evans is studying for a major in environmental science. He is a junior at Southeast and would like to incorporate sustainability into the lives of Americans. He is an office assistant for the Industrial and Engineering Department and was 2009-2010 New Student of the Year. He is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha, student government, University Sustainability Committee, President's Leadership Academy and Campus Outreach.

Evans is the son of Mike and Lila Walker of Ava. He was a 2009 graduate of Ava High School in Ava.
