FORT DRUM, NY (09/19/2011)(readMedia)-- More than 400 Army National Guard Soldiers from the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade are now training here to prepare Soldiers for potential deployment overseas in 2012.

WHO: New York National Guard Soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, 142nd Aviation Assault Helicopter Battalion based on Long Island are joined with elements of the New York's Company B, 3rd Battalion, 126th Aviation from Rochester and detachments from both Connecticut and Maine Army National Guard for the training.

WHAT: The troops are conducting individual premobilization training tasks, focusing on those required individual Soldier tasks required of every Soldier before deployment overseas.

WHEN: Tuesday, September 20 at 10 a.m. If a large group intends to visit, a second opportunity will be available at 1 p.m.

WHERE: News media linkup will be at the Fort Drum media center, Route 26 outside of the Wheeler Sack Army Airfield.

Media Opportunity

News reporters will see the culmination of all the training during dismounted patrolling and individual Soldier tasks. Soldiers will move through an urban training site, interact with civilian role-players, react to fire and conduct combat actions.

Leaders from the 3-142nd will be available for media interviews, along with Soldiers from Ronkonkoma, Latham and Rochester.
