ALBANY, NY (04/16/2013)(readMedia)-- Classic country music has stood the test of time and a whole new generation is discovering these great American tunes. If you love the songs of Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Buck Owens, George Jones, Connie Smith, and all the other great country legends, then The Spurs USA is the band for you. This family-friendly band is back on the road for a night at The Linda, WAMC's Performing Arts Studio, in Albany, New York on Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 PM. As a thank you to the public radio station's listeners, volunteers, and the community, WAMC will open its doors to all for an evening of great country music. Admission is free and there will be a table in the lobby of The Linda for anyone who wishes to contribute to WAMC's "Locked Box" in support of the station. All donations will count toward day one of WAMC's upcoming fund drive which begins June 3, 2013.

The Spurs USA have been playing in The Berkshires, Connecticut, and the Capital Region since 2010, bringing the best of swing, country and slow ballads to country music lovers of all ages. Individually, the members of The Spurs USA have played everything from folk to rock to originals for over 30 years.

"The synergy of this six piece band is magical," says Dona Frank-Federico, vocalist and marketer for the band, "and we want to share it with all the folks who love traditional country music as much as we do." The Spurs USA will be playing songs from their CD, "When Country Was Cool Vol. 1" which debuted in November of last year, as well as a lot of new material. The band features Saratoga resident, Federico, on vocals and tambourine. She's the one who jumps into the crowd, dancing and singing and getting the crowd into the swing of things. Lead singer, Dwight O'Neil, who hails from Memphis but has lived in New York for years now, has the voice the band calls, "their secret weapon." Spurs USA drummer and vocalist Bob Jones, has played since the age of ten. People love his rich and powerful baritone voice singing the Johnny Cash songs. Andy Gordon is an extraordinary multi-talented musician who plays pedal steel and banjo with the band. Paul Rice on fiddle and electric swing guitar delights the crowd with his renditions of some of the great old fiddle tunes of yore. John Barrett is featured on bass guitar. He played with the famed Rhythm Dukes in the 60's, when bands like The Grateful Dead opened for them. John's pedigree alone brings fans to the shows.

The Spurs USA began their collaboration in 2010 when they got together to play the old country tunes they loved but couldn't really hear anyplace on the dial. People started showing up, and the rest is history. The past two years have been packed with performances at venues like Infinity Hall in Norfolk, CT, and The Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield. Upcoming stops on their tour include Altamont and Saratoga Fairs, Saratoga Polo, The Saratoga Race Track, Caffe Lena, and The Gypsy Joynt in Great Barrington, MA. You can enjoy some singing, some dancing, and a little crying sometimes, too.
