BCD Teacher Attends Seminar on "Everyday Life in Early America"

LENOX, MA (07/13/2011)(readMedia)-- This summer, Berkshire Country Day School history teacher Sarah Pitcher-Hoffman will travel to Yale University in New Haven, CT to attend a one-week competitive application seminar entitled "Everyday Life in Early America."

Directed by John Demos, Samuel Knight Professor of History Emeritus at Yale University, the seminar will develop a detailed sense of "life on the ground" among ordinary folk during the Colonial Period (roughly 1600-1775), through lectures, discussion, field trips and library visits.

The Gilder Lehrman Institute is renowned for its scholarly seminars for K-12 educators and National Park Service interpreters. This summer, the Institute's seminars will offer over 1,000 participants the chance to study American history with leading scholars of the field. Held at institutions throughout the United States and Great Britain, these weeklong seminars provide intellectual stimulation and practical resources and strategies to take back to the classroom. In each seminar, educators work with primary source documents provided by the professors and the Gilder Lehrman Collection. Each educator receives reading materials, room and board, transportation for tours and a stipend.
