De Sanctis is known for his fight against organized crime, corruption, tax evasion and money laundering and has gained notoriety for his participation in several controversial cases in Brazil.

He is the author of many books, including "Money Laundering Through Art: A Criminal Justice Perspective," which provides an overview of how criminals launder money through the art market.

Last year's award recipient was Judith S. Kaye, former Chief Judge of New York State.

The New York State Bar Association, with 74,000 members, is the largest voluntary state bar association in the country. It was founded in 1876.
