BREAKING: City Funded Interpreters Allowed at Poll Sites

Judge rules against the BOE in favor of voters

NEW YORK, NY (02/25/2019) (readMedia)-- Today, Judge Walker ruled in favor of the City against the NYC Board of Elections, allowing city funded interpreters at polling locations. The exact details of the court order are currently being negogiated.

In response, Susan Lerner, Executive Director of Common Cause/NY, issued the following statement:

"Today's decision in favor of the City is a win for New York City voters. Each person, regardless of what language they speak, deserves equal access to the ballot. It's a disgraceful use of tax dollars for the BOE to sue the city to keep assistance away from voters. It's now up to the City and BOE to make sure that city-funded translators are inside and accessible for all."

Earlier this morning, Common Cause/NY and advocates from the Let NY Vote coalition, Borough President Adams and others rallied in support of interpreters at poll sites.
