DES MOINES, IA (07/29/2015)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Bret Mace of Estherville as an Iowan of the Day for the 2015 Iowa State Fair.

Mace plays a number of roles in his community. Not only is he a family man, he is also known as a dedicated employee, church member, 4-H supporter and volunteer.

A lifelong member of his church, he expanded his role by becoming an usher, greeter and volunteer. He helps coordinate the church's garage sale and serves on the board of trustees. Mace is also involved with Estherville's larger community. He is a member of Kiwanis and Elk's Club where he is able to support education through their scholarship programs. As foreman at the Estherville Power Plant, Mace works to be a leader and do whatever is needed to keep things running smoothly. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for 25 years before retiring from the position.

Mace serves as president of the 4-H Youth Committee and vice president of the Emmet County Fair Board. He volunteers doing maintenance on the Fairgrounds and assists with events held in the off season.

"Bret is an individual that has made and still is making significant contributions to his community," said Sherry Mace, his wife and nominator, "He's always just a phone call away."

Mace's day of recognition will be Sunday, August 16 at the 2015 Iowa State Fair. He will be recognized with a ceremony on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage at 2:30 p.m. Along with accommodations at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, Mace will receive a cash prize, Grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowan's across the state who have made a difference in others' lives, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated more than $110 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
