DES MOINES, IA (07/30/2025) (readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Lou Sipolt Jr. of Altoona as a 2025 Iowa State Fair Iowan of the Day.
Many Iowans know Lou from his years as a media personality on 95 KGGO, then on Channel 23 and now on Local 5 as the host of "Iowa Live." What listeners might not know is that Lou has dedicated his time and talents to advocating for over twenty organizations since he moved to Iowa. These non-profit organizations include the American Heart Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa and ChildServe, just to name a few.
Some of Lou's most prominent activism has been in support of stronger animal abuse prevention laws across Iowa. Through his "Doggies on Death row" radio and television series, over 2,000 dogs have been adopted. Lou has also volunteered as an emcee for several Animal Rescue League fundraisers. He even buried himself in concrete for two days to raise awareness about weak animal cruelty laws. His efforts paid off when his team solicited 20,000 signatures that paved the way for a significant change in legislation.
When he's not emceeing a fundraiser or volunteering in the community, Lou enjoys fueling his passion for motor sports. For years, he held the world record for driving a car 7.5 miles on two wheels. Most importantly, Lou does whatever he can to leverage his talents and passions in support of all Iowans-humans and animals alike.
Lou's day of recognition will be Saturday, August 16, at the 2025 Iowa State Fair. He will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley Stage at 12:00 PM. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, Lou will receive Iowa State Fair admission tickets, Grandstand Concert tickets, use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart, VIP parking and a cash prize.
The Iowan of the Day program was founded by the Blue Ribbon Foundation in 1997 to honor outstanding Iowans who have made a difference in their communities. From nearly one hundred nominations, the Iowan of the Day committee selected ten Iowans who demonstrate exceptional integrity, hard work and dedication to their communities.
The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated more than $210 million for the renovation and preservation of the historic Iowa State Fairgrounds.
