Joyce and Keith McClain Named Recipients of Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (08/03/2026) (readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Joyce and Keith McClain of Carson as recipients of the 2026 Iowa State Fair "Iowan of the Day" Award on Monday, August 17.

For decades, Joyce and Keith have dedicated their lives to serving Carson and the surrounding communities through their faith, volunteerism, and commitment to helping others. Whether mentoring students, supporting local organizations, or lending a hand to neighbors in need, the couple has made a lasting impact on their community.

The McClains have faithfully served Carson United Methodist Church for many decades, teaching Sunday School together while Joyce has led classes for more than 50 years. Joyce has also served on the Funeral Lunch Committee for five decades, while Keith managed the construction of the church building and served as a trustee. Both have been recognized with United Methodist Women Special Mission Recognition pins for their service.

Beyond their church, the couple has devoted countless hours to the Carson Business Club, Dreamland Theater, community committees, and the Can Corral recycling program, which raises funds for local youth organizations. Keith has served on the City's Planning and Zoning Commission, while Joyce has been a member of the Park Board.

The McClains have also been dedicated supporters of Riverside Community Schools through the TeamMates Mentoring Program, Elementary Reading Program, and by attending countless student activities.

Keith also paints the town's decorative barn quilts, while Joyce is known for preparing and delivering home-cooked meals to neighbors during times of need. As many in Carson say, "Where there is Joyce, there is Keith, and vice versa."

Joyce and Keith will be recognized for their Iowan of the Day Award on the Iowa State Fair's Anne and Bill Riley Stage at noon on August 17. Along with being recognized they will receive, four admission tickets, four grandstand concert tickets, a VIP parking pass, hotel accommodations with the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, $200 cash, a golf cart for the day, and an Iowa State Fair Swag Bag.

The Iowan of the Day program, presented by the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation, recognizes outstanding Iowans who have made a positive difference in their communities through service, leadership, and dedication to others.
