Celebrate Iowa Craftsmanship at the 2026 Iowa State Fair Woodcarvers' Auction
DES MOINES, IA (08/10/2026) (readMedia)-- If the sound of chainsaws catches your attention during the 2026 Iowa State Fair, make your way to Expo Hill, where talented woodcarvers Gary Keenan, T.J. Jenkins and Clint Henik transform ordinary logs into extraordinary works of art. Once completed, these one-of-a-kind carvings will be available to purchase through the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation's 2026 Woodcarvers' Auction, giving Fairgoers the chance to take home a unique piece of the Fair.
The auction will once again feature both in-person and online bidding opportunities. The live auction begins at 4 PM on Sunday, August 23, in the Penningroth Sale Ring inside the John and Emily Putney Family Cattle Barn. A selection of carvings will also be offered online, with bidding open from 10 AM on Saturday, August 22, through 6 PM on Sunday, August 23. Online auction items will be available for preview beginning at 10 AM on Friday, August 21.
Throughout the Fair, August 13–23, visitors can watch the artists at work during daily carving demonstrations at 10 AM, 12 PM, 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM on Expo Hill. From detailed wildlife sculptures to sports team logos and other creative designs, each carving showcases the artists' incredible craftsmanship and creativity.
Proceeds from the Woodcarvers' Auction support the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation's mission to preserve and enhance the historic Iowa State Fairgrounds. By participating in the auction or becoming involved in one of the Foundation's giving or membership programs, Fairgoers help ensure the Iowa State Fair remains a treasured tradition for generations to come.
